This area is totally off limits! We had permission to film at the top of the falls for a special program that will air on WSB-TV in June. Kelly (the college’s registrar) made the trip with us, and I’m grateful. He helped the photographer carry her tripod and camera along with leading the way along the path.
It probably doesn’t help to know that we were more than 186 feet up on a rock cliff overlooking the Toccoa Falls gorge directly below us.
Here is the view we had at the Glen Falls area. It is beautiful at anytime of the day. Mrs. Forrest, the college’s co-founder, often hiked to this area. Many times, she had a group with her. When this was the cases, she would pack picnic baskets loaded with china, hot tea, and sweet breads. Rather British, wouldn’t you say?
In the spring of 1978 I hiked to the top of the falls with two friends from Florida. We looked over the edge and watched people walking around below us. I was surprised that I could recognize people I knew from that height. From up there they appeared to be about 1/4 inch tall. Just thinking about that now gives me the chills.
