Indian Island in the center of the backwaters of Lake Hartwell is almost underwater. We paddled out to it recently and just sat and talked about all that has happened over the past year. This time last June, I was clueless about having cancer.

The discovery and the operation hit just after July 4! Then I hung my paddle up for nine months so I could go through Chemo treatments and heal from the surgery. I did believe that I would be able to go back out on the lake and river but there were times when I wondered just how soon it would be. I’m still easily tired but the cancer is gone and the scans are all clear. (smile)

The lake was still and beautiful and hot. I’m still not sure about how clean the water is, especially since there has been so many up stream water releases.

I love the trees on the island — tiny leaves and dark branches. I paddled up to the island and all the birds started chattering. It was like they were telling the “Indian Spirits” that we were there! Yikes!

Pat likes to weave her way in and out through the trees. All the time she is doing this, she’s shouting “spiders!!”

Our mountain view! I never get tired or bored with it.
