After seeing the circle in the ice in the above photo, a friend told me that it was Tolkien’s Ring. I said, “Ring? It’s a circle.” If you look closely, you’ll notice that there is another one off to the side. It’s just not as pronounced. I have no idea how this “ring” was created in the ice covering the stream that flows away from the base of Toccoa Falls. My guess would be that it was created by the current. It seems perfect; and while the ice was solid in places, there was no way someone could stand on it and carve a circle! A mystery, indeed. Who knows, maybe it is Tolkien’s ring after all.
