When life is difficult, one of the best things we can do is to look up. I was driving through North Carolina this weekend and stopped for a moment to open the sunroof of the car. When I did I noticed a tree above me engulfed by winter’s approach but still ablaze with the light and color of fall. (It was a bush that burned but was not consumed.) The sun was setting casting long shadows across the land but above light and hope was evident. A word from God? Maybe, after all He is known to speak to us in quiet and gentle moments just as He is known to come to us when storms are raging and winds of adversity lash at our dreams for the future.
