This is not the best photo but it will work. I had to get two very treat eager dogs to sit and stay at the very place where the Appalachian Trail begins! This is it! Here’s the marker for the A. T. and these two trail bunnies were more than willing to hike the first few miles with new friends.
The Appalachian Trail is one of the longest continuously marked footpaths in the world. It measures roughly 2,180 miles and goes through fourteen states along the crests and valleys of the Appalachian mountain range from the southern point at Springer Mountain, Georgia, to the Trail’s northern end at Katahdin, Maine.
An estimated 2-3 million people visit the Trail every year. About 1,800–2,000 people attempt to “thru-hike†it from beginning to end. People from around the globe are drawn to the A.T. for a variety of reasons—to reconnect with nature, escape the stress of city life, meet new people, deepen old friendships, or to experience a much simpler life.
