I call this little guy Bunkie Boo because he “bunks” at the cottage. He’s a Carolina House Wren and he’s in and out of everything! He climbs the bricks, peeks in my windows to see me working, and watches for me to come out and fill his feeder. Yes, he has a special dish that is filled twice each day with his favorite meal worms! He’s a spoiled little guy.
For the longest time, we wondered if he was “Monk Bunkie.” But suddenly, Mrs. Bunkie appeared this spring and now they have a “Baby B” jumping around being fed by his parents! Good for you Bunkie!
Here’s my Chipping Sparrow. I can’t look at him without thinking of God’s care and infinite resources during this “stay at home” time. “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (Matthew 6:26-27)
I have lots of finches—so many—that I can’t keep the feeders filled. The Purple Finch is on the left the sunflower seed in her mouth, and Mr. House Finch is on the right.
The Blue Jays are smart and often let me know when they want to be fed. They are larger and the last to come to the feeders. They really are big birds that are not afraid of much. My grandmother would always tell me: “A Blue Jay will tell on the devil,” and I believe it! They always, always “tell” on the neighbor’s cat when she is prowling around.
I had such a fun time watching these guys feed, and the closeup shots made me realize I need to either clean my feeders or buy new ones!
I recently counted five pairs of Cardinals at the feeders at one time. An old wives tales says, “When you see a Cardinal, angels are nearby.”
At first, I called this an Evening Dove, but it is really a Common Ground Dove and that is really where she stays most of the time: on my bank in the afternoons.
Finally, here is “No name” because I don’t know what the name of this little bird is! I’ll keep looking! I think he/she could be a white-breasted nut-hatch. If only my long-time friend Peggy Bass was still alive, she would know!
