Mountain Crossings at Neel’s Gap: One of my favorite places to visit on a Sunday afternoon. We drove up this day after hiking to the top of Brasstown Bald.
The Thru Hikers were on the patio adjusting their packs, and Anne was determined to photograph them. I think AT Thru hikers feel a little like celebrities and just go with it.
Food boxes or Hiker Boxes. This is where you can pick up, donate, or leave behind food for other hikers. It is called Trail Magic. And you also can contribute to the stash. A girl inside the store gave Pat a banana. She came out the door and looked at us and said, “Look what she gave me.” I smiled and said, “Trail Magic!”
This guy was planning how he would meet up with the others along the trail in a couple of days.
This is how AT hikers make it on the trail. They send their food drops on to a location ahead of them. Then when they arrive at the next location their food and supplies are waiting for them there. It is a real organized thing. I need to ask the couple of people I know who hiked the trail, if they did this.
