Evidence of Fall’s Return

Every year, the birds go nuts over the berries on my dogwood trees. This year was no different. Last week with the fall season in full swing and winter on the way, a flock of robins descended on the trees in my front yard. And within a couple of days, they were picked clean! Next up: the return of the finches—yellow and gold and many more!

Cocoa and Friends

I’m still having to watch Cocoa closely. These are her Christmas bears (I know, I know); it is way too early to be thinking about this, but she kept getting into the closet where they are usually stored and pulling them out. I finally gave up and put them on the bed in the guestroom. Now, I’m finding bears scattered throughout the house! On this day, she had them lined up and was talking to them about the importance of registering to vote for the election that will take place in a week. I’m not sure who will vote for who; the important thing is to vote! It is the right thing to do, and it is the American thing to do.

A Little Too Serious?

I think Cocoa Joy is taking this election stuff a little too seriously. She spent most of the afternoon in the backyard collecting acorns. Then she wanted to know if she had enough to register so she can vote in the November election!

Trying to Move on

I honestly tried to go a week without posting something from England. This week I made it until Friday (!) but the weather here (overcast with a soft rain) reminds me so much of Britain that I could not help myself. So here are a couple of photos taken last May while visiting the Cotswalds. Cheers!

Graham, the taxi driver who took us to Chipping Camden, mentioned that he was in his garden planting flowers when we “rang him up” and asked him to take us to the station so we could catch the train back to London. As I listened to him talk, I realized that many more people in England than in America truly love gardening.

One Look Back

Before we say goodbye to warm weather and mountain laurel, here is a parting shot from summer. This one was taken in North Carolina’s Pisgah National Forrest on a hot summer afternoon. Three months from now, we’ll all be saying something like, “I can’t wait until it is warm again.”
