On Saturday, we revisited Mirror Lake outside of Highlands, North Carolina, and discovered a place where residents can pull their canoes up and leave them. I’m sure many return often at sunset and paddle out into the lake.

They were all over the shoreline placed beneath Balsam trees and Rhododendron.

One look at this pretty mountain lake and you understand how it got its name.

Of course, there are the mountain houses that have such character.

And then there is Dry Falls, which is not dry but it is called that because you can walk behind the waterfall. Only honestly, you really do get wet—very wet.
