Port Huron Lighthouse

Filed under: Lighthouses of Lake Erie, The Company of Friends

I took this photo last week before the snow “hit.” It could have been taken on a spring day. But with the wind and the “chill-factor,” it was far from that!

Snowy Scenes from PA

Filed under: A Present Peace, Fall and Winter in the Mountains

Here’s something we rarely see in Georgia—a river with ice along the banks.

I don’t have anything special to write about these photos other than just enjoy the scenery! . . .  The one above does remind me of powdered sugar on cookies. (smile)

After a short drive through the country and woods, we came upon this scene—pure and unspoiled America. I didn’t know it still existed.

Safety from The Storm

Filed under: Lighthouses of Lake Erie

The original Vermilion Lighthouse was built in 1847. The story is the same for all the lighthouses along the Erie shoreline—to divert ships and schooners away from danger. Romantic in every way, these structures are usually located along shorelines surrounded by sweet, welcoming townships.

Years ago, Lake Erie was a dumping ground for trash and garbage. Today, however, things are much different. The lake is no longer used for this and the evidence of past mistakes are no longer devastating. In fact, people who walk the beaches make a hobby of picking up and collecting wave tossed and sanded down beach glass. The guy with us found these pieces and told us that glass pieces like these are used for jewelery and decoration. And red glass can fetch a lot of money. Wish I had hung around and looked for some of that!
