Spending Sunday Afternoon with Cocoa Joy

After a two-mile walk, Cocoa Joy wanted to stop for a quick water break. When she’s with me, I can’t pause long enough to take too many photos. She likes to check out every side path along the trail we are traveling.

Sweetwater Creek is a peaceful deeply wooded wilderness located only minutes from downtown Atlanta. The state park has several “moderate” walking trails that wind alongside the banks of the river.

This is part of the wall that is left of the New Manchester Manufacturing Company, a textile mill that was burned down during the Civil War. The state just renovated and restored these ruins in an effort to preserve the structure. Beyond the mill, the trail climbs rocky bluffs and provides views of a mile-long stretch of white-water rapids. Due to the heat, we did not walk that part of the trail today.

War Games

During the Civil War, the Atlanta Campaign started at Kennesaw Mountain 165 years ago. Over 5,350 soldiers were killed in the battle that was fought from June 19 to July 2, 1864. Today, men in blue and gray reenacted some of those fateful days.

It’s A Tomato!

Tomato!

I was with friends this weekend, and we walked down to their garden. When we got to the pumpkin patch, I asked their daughter, “What is it?” She looked up at me and said, “It’s a tomato!!”
