The Pond at Lewis Close

Filed under: C. S. Lewis, Journaling through England

This is the same pond as the one pictured above—just a different view and section. I can imagine Lewis walking up the pathway at Lewis Close to sit for a quiet moment on this brick bench. Who knows if he actually did this or not. He may have been every bit as busy as we are today, especially since he taught college classes. Still, it is a wonderful thought to think of him sitting here for a reflective moment.

Lewis’ Back Door

Filed under: C. S. Lewis, Journaling through England

Lewis had the steps and the second floor door installed after purchasing the Kilns. He could leave his room on the second floor without disturbing anyone. Notice that the small sign in the upper left portion of the building says, “The Kilns.”

Golden Valley

Filed under: C. S. Lewis, Journaling through England

Those who saw “Shadow Lands” (the movie about C. S. Lewis’ life) will remember seeing this art work of Golden Valley. This framed picture is hung in Lewis’ hallway near the front door. When he was a child, it hung in his room (Surprised by Joy). There is no missing it. And everyone who visits the Kilns wants to know where the real Golden Valley is located.

We walked up to these guys and they barely moved. Evidently they were so accustomed to people walking along the path that they did not feel we were a threat—not even when we took their photograph.

They’ll Be Gone Soon

Handsome and Bluey (my resident blue birds) won’t be busy parents too much longer. They have produced their usual three brews again this year. They are naturally shy and hard to photograph. But I was able to take this one (quickly) from the window of my house. Notice the worm in the male’s beak. He is feeding the female.
